Telephony Connect for Zoom Contact CenterHOW IT WORKS
A Continuous Pipeline From Your Phones to Gong
Four stages, running on a schedule, with monitoring at every step.
Extract
Pull call data, recordings, and metadata from your telephony system's API. Scheduled or event-driven, with checkpointing so no calls are missed during upstream outages.
Transform
Align call data to Gong's model. Map participants to the Gong users and contacts, map CRM association and ensure speaker separation — so every call is Gong ready.
Load
Push calls into Gong via the Gong API. Engineered around Gong's rate limits, with retries on transient failures and idempotency handling so re-runs never double-load a call.
Monitor
Customer-facing dashboard with full visibility into ingestion throughput, exception reporting with root-cause detail, and a searchable call history — so every call is accounted for.
WHY COMPANIES DON'T BUILD THIS THEMSELVES
Four reasons teams stop trying to build this themselves.
Every Telephony API Is Different. And They Change.
Authentication varies (OAuth, API keys, session tokens). Data shapes vary. Rate limits vary. Some systems don't expose modern APIs at all and require direct database access or report-based extraction. Once you build it, you own maintaining it — every time the source system or Gong updates their API.
High Call Volumes Demand Real Engineering.
Telephony and contact center environments generate serious call volume — often thousands of calls per day. Building a pipeline that reliably pulls from the source system and pushes into Gong at that scale isn't rocket science, but it isn't easy either. Throughput, retries, error handling, and recovery from upstream outages all have to work — every day, without supervision.
Recording Files Are Trickier Than They Look.
Most telephony systems serve recordings via direct or signed URLs that work fine for Gong. But edge cases exist: some URLs expire before Gong can fetch them, some require authenticated access Gong can't replicate, and at high volume you sometimes have to copy the recording into intermediate storage and generate a fresh time-based signed URL Gong can play. Getting this wrong means calls show up in Gong that won't play.
Most Systems Pass A Phone Number. That's Often Not Enough.
Telephony systems hand off a phone number, and Gong does its best to match that number to a CRM record. For most calls, that works. But edge cases are common — multiple accounts share a number, or the contact isn't in CRM yet. We've built expertise in enriching call metadata with up-to-date CRM data before the call hits Gong, replacing probabilistic phone-number matching with deterministic association to the right account, deal, and contacts.
